In Claude, find Connectors in Settings and choose Add custom connector. In ChatGPT, find Apps in Settings, turn on developer mode under Advanced settings, then choose Create app. Menu names change now and then.
What it does
Permit Plotter collects building permits from the town and village offices of the East End of Long Island, verifies each one and places it on the map. This connector lets your assistant search them, open a record with its owner and contractor, count permits by town and kind of work, and show them on a map.
It is made for trade companies first, then builders, suppliers and real estate agents.
What you need
- A Permit Plotter subscription.
- Your Permit Plotter account to sign in with. You sign in on Permit Plotter's own page, so your assistant never sees your password.
Try asking
Plain questions work. These five are a good place to start.
- How many new swimming pool permits has Southampton issued so far in 2026, and which hamlets have the most?
- Show me the most recent building permits in the Village of Quogue.
- Does anyone have a permit on Pen Craig in Quogue?
- Open the permit for 8 Pen Craig in Quogue. Who owns it, what is the work, and are there other permits on the property?
- Show me the newest new-pool permits in Southampton on a map.
What is covered
The towns of Southampton, East Hampton, Southold and Shelter Island, and the villages of Southampton, East Hampton, Quogue, Sagaponack, North Haven, Sag Harbor, Westhampton Beach and West Hampton Dunes. Records start January 1, 2026.
Each office sends its records on its own schedule, so ask your assistant for the newest permit date in any town. Places not listed here are not collected yet.
Limits
- Three spreadsheet downloads a day for each account. A download counts when you open its link, not when your assistant prepares it.
- One file holds up to 20,000 permits, and an account can download up to 50,000 rows across 30 days.
- A download link works once and expires after ten minutes.
- A search shows up to 50 permits at a time; your assistant asks for the next page when it needs more.
- If an assistant sends a great many requests at once, the connector asks it to wait and try again.
What it will not do
It reads records and shows them to you. Nothing on a permit is changed, and no one is contacted, whether a contractor, an owner or a town office. The one thing it prepares is a one-time link to a spreadsheet, built when you open it.
If something goes wrong
- No subscriptionThe connector is for Permit Plotter subscribers. Sign in with an account that has an active subscription.
- Closed testIf sign-in says your account is in a closed test, sign in at permitplotter.com and enter your access code there first. Then connect again.
- Authorization failedDisconnect Permit Plotter in your assistant's settings, then connect it again from step 1. This also fixes a connection that has stopped working.
- Map not showingSome apps cannot show the map. Ask for the list instead, for example: “List the newest new-pool permits in Southampton.”
- Download linkA link works once and expires after ten minutes. Ask your assistant for a new one. If the day's three downloads are used, try again tomorrow.
- Blank fieldA blank field means the town's record did not include it. Permit Plotter never fills one in.
